I Drive Smart offers the Virginia State Driver Education Certification course for new drivers. This required course is mandated and regulated by the State of Virginia to obtain a Virginia State Driver's License. The course runs 36 fifty-minute periods in-class and 14 fifty-minute periods behind-the-wheel. The training can be purchased from I Drive Smart either in a complete package to include both the in-class and behind-the-wheel or in a partial package to include just the in-car training.

All in-class training is conducted by a Virginia State Certified instructor following a curriculum that covers the below training objectives, along with other topics not mentioned here. The instruction progresses through a sequenced educational process which complies with all Virginia State requirements.  Students are challenged and engaged by our interactive learning process and are tested periodically to measure their learning of the material.  The in-class training sessions are focused, practical and informative; just like all our other training.     
 

– Classroom sessions cover the below and more:

• Novice driver responsibilities and Virginia licensing requirements
• Introducing operator and vehicle control tasks in a controlled environment
• Space management systems
• Basic maneuvering
• Risk reducing strategies for high speed, multi-lane expressways
• Personal factors influencing operator performance (drugs and alcohol)
• Environmental conditions that affect safe vehicle operation
• Vehicle functions and malfunctions and collision reporting 

I Drive Smart is the only Driver Education program in the State of Virginia that guarantees   the state minimum of two-students per in-car session, everytime!  We believe this method maximizes the training benefit for each student while training on the road.  During each session,  individual students will drive for 1 fifty-minute period and observe for 1 fifty-minute period as   required under the Code of Virginia which governs all driver training in the state. 

– Behind-the-Wheel Training:

• 14 fifty-minute periods of behind-the-wheel training (7 periods driving & 7 periods observation)
• 7 two-period sessions (scheduled on-line)  
• The in-car instruction is designed for personalized attention and is limited to only two (2) students at a time. 

To purchase and register for a Full Driver Education Class Package:

1. Create a User Account by clicking Account Log-in. This will allow you to access our services and register for both in-class and your included behind-the-wheel training.  Be sure to sign-in each time you visit our site!
2. Once you have created your User Account and are logged in, view our Current Schedules page to select the desired in-class training session.  Once you have completed the class selection and purchase process, you will see your desired in-class session loaded into your account along with the included unreserved 7 behind-the-wheel training session. 
3. Once you have completed all of your in-class training and have submitted your state required forms, your in-car sessions can be scheduled individually via your user account.   View and select your Behind-the-Wheel Training Sessions when you have completed all in-class training.

To purchase and schedule only the State Required In-car Training:

1. Create a User Account by clicking Account Log-in.  This will allow you to access our services, see your purchase history and schedule your training.  Be sure to sign-in each time you visit our site!
2. Once you have created your User Account, go to the Behind-the-Wheel Package page to read the behind-the-wheel training process.  It is important that you read and understand all the components of the process.  
3. After you have read all the material on the Behind-the-Wheel Package page, scroll to the bottom of that page and click on the Purchase Behind-The-Wheel Package  link which will initiate the purchase process for a Virginia Behind-the-Wheel Package.         

NOTE: Once you have completed the purchase of the Behind-the-Wheel Package, 7 unreserved two-period training sessions will be loaded into your account for individual scheduling on-line.  Further, each student will be required to train with another student so it is highly recommended that a student "buddy-up" with another student to faciliatate the scheduling process.   
 
IMPORTANT: The process to obtain a Virginia Driver's License is a closely regulated process governed by the Code of Virginia.  All Driver Education Schools are required by Virginia Law to operate under this code.  The training process along with the required submission of training documentation is completely outlined on the Virginia FAQs page.  Please be sure to completely read the Virginia FAQs page to avoid any confusion about the Driver's Education Process.
