The Code of Virginia (§ 22.1-205 Item F) stipulates that “The Board of Education shall approve correspondence courses for the classroom training component of driver education.” The Code explicitly requires the correspondence course content be aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning for Driver Education.  The Virginia Department of Education has approved all the content in this online program as well as the formative and summative assessment protocols as well as the Parent/Teen component of the I Drive Smart Too, Inc. curriculum.  This correspondence course meets the needs of all constituents in the Commonwealth as required by the Virginia Department of Education. All the testing for this program is conducted through our secure online portal within the program.  Students can elect to test through the secure portal or have the final assessment proctored according to the Virginia Department of Education Correspondence Guidelines.

8. Statement 1:  The program consists of at least 30 hours of instructions and includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness and organ and tissue donation awareness as required by law.

    Statement 2:  You must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to take the online driver education course. All individuals who elect to take the classroom component of the driver’s education course online must take the online course through a DMV licensed driver training school. Home-schooled students are exempt from this requirement.

    Statement 3: To benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.
